approach rather than a “management directed” approach, ensuring that decisions for change come from those who will implement the changes – the most successful route to performance improvement. This ensures that participants “take ownership” of any decisions made and never feel that these decisions have been forced on them. Management form part of the team and play an active role in determining priorities and releasing resources.

I'm Paul Thomas and I work to improve business performance by inspiring people to exceed their own expectations, whether they work in the boardroom or at shop floor level.
County Management Consultants Ltd offers psychometric testing, personality profiling, individual mentoring, group mentoring, coaching and team development. I started as an apprentice and worked up to become a director in both engineering and financial services. My first hand experience of a number of sectors as an employee and as a consultant gives me an in-depth understanding of many of the problems encountered in the corporate world. Based on my experiences at both ends of the employment heirarchy, I am particularly adept at bringing together the aspirations of operators and their managers, ensuring that their joint efforts are focussed on the success of the business.
Early in my career I developed an interest in answering the question
Paul starts by getting operators and managers to express their real feelings about their jobs and the environment within which they are working. Their statements, depersonalised to remove any worries they might have about ‘career limiting views’, are used as the starting point for a workshop where they develop action plans to address the problems as they see them.
The key is that it is ‘workshop driven’ not ‘management directed’. The outcome is that the participants own the action plans and take great pride in the results their actions achieve.
“Paul was a major contributor to the Business Re-engineering that took place at Scott Bader, really helping to facilitate the process, with very clear and objective advice.”
“Working with Paul is a delight! The heart of his expertise lies in understanding how human interactions work, and helping clients to leverage their strengths to improve/address their (and other peoples') weaknesses. Interactions and workshops with Paul are not only enjoyable but also deliver solid long-lasting benefits.”
I have used Paul Thomas as an effective catalyst for the change programmes I have managed in Mott MacDonald. I have found Paul very effective indeed, particularly at dealing with senior managers. Certainly have a discussion with Paul.
Paul’s workshop has been a wake up call to all participants. In the turmoil of the day to day work in a mining operation, we sometimes forget that innovation and change is what can take our project to another millennium of operation and success and it is what has kept it alive up to now.
